Before buying Yorkshire Terriers, think twice what kind of dog you want and choose the breeder accordingly. Here are some tips on choosing a breeder. Ask:

How often does s/he breed? Breeding too often can damage the dam's health and puppies are likely to be of poor quality.
- How was the sire chosen? Choosing a titled Yorkie is sure to confirm the breeder's desire to produce healthy, promising puppies.

How long has s/he been breeding? As a matter of fact, practice makes perfect and experienced breeders do obviously a better job than occasional ones.

Is the breeder a club member? Responsible breeders are always eager to improve their knowledge and interact with other Yorkshire Terrier owners.

Which conditions were the puppies raised under? Little Yorkshire Terriers need proper early socialization, vaccinations, and care.
Well cared for, Yorkshire Terriers tend to live for about 12-14 years. Keep in mind that the breed is susceptible to hereditary disorders. It is recommended to buy puppies from certified breeding stock. Both parents should be screened for luxating patella. It is important to check the teeth of the parents. The Yorkshire Terrier is prone to an early tooth loss. Do not be hooked on the diminutive size of the puppy. Tiny Yorkshire Terriers under 3-4 pounds tend to develop hypoglycemia.
